The wire tap connector is a connector used for taping into a wire along its length, when there is no access to the end of the wire. In the past i would have to use a crimp type of connector or strip a section of wire and solder in the joining wire like a tee joint. This can be difficult and time consuming to accomplish. This type of joint is also difficult to seal with shrink wrap or wrap with electrical tape. The old stye of crimp fittings are prone to corrosion and failure and are not esthetically pleasing to look at, if that matters.
The best wire tap connector I have found is the Posi tap connector by posi lock.
This connector doesn’t require striping the wire being tapped into and is reusable. Posi taps are water resistant and very strong. Here is a list of the SAE standards for this wire tap connector.
How to use the wire tap connector.
Insert the wire being tapped into the top cap of the posi tap connector.
Screw the body of the connector back onto the cap trapping the wire.
Next strip about 3/8″ off the end of the wire that is to be joined to the tapped wire.
Remove the cap at the other end of the wire tap connector and insert the striped wire into the cap.
Reinstall the cap onto the posi lock pushing the wire into the body of the connector and tighten.
Multiple wires may be connected into the the posi tap. For a strong reliable wire tap connector check out the Posi tap connector.
